- A photo or idol of Lord Vishnu/Satyanarayan
- A wooden platform (chowki) and a clean cloth (preferably yellow) to cover it
- A kalash (pot) filled with water, topped with mango leaves and a coconut

- Roli, chandan, akshat (rice), flowers, and durva grass
- Bananas, and ingredients for the prasad (sooji/rava halwa is traditional)
- Incense sticks, a diya, camphor, and a bell
पूजा विधि क्रम (Step-by-Step Procedure)
- Bathe and wear clean clothes, then clean the puja area and set up the chowki with the yellow cloth.
- Place the kalash near the chowki and the image of Lord Satyanarayan on it.
- Begin with a short Ganesh Puja, invoking Lord Ganesha for an auspicious, obstacle-free start.
- Perform the Kalash Puja, invoking the presence of the sacred rivers and deities within it.
- Invoke Lord Satyanarayan with roli, chandan, flowers, and akshat, offering panchamrit and then bathing the idol/image if applicable.
- Listen to or read the Satyanarayan Katha (the five chapters narrating the story and significance of the vrat).
- Perform the aarti with a lit diya, ringing the bell, followed by offering the prasad (typically sooji halwa with fruits).
- Distribute the prasad to all present, as sharing it is considered an essential part of the puja.
