History

Bhramaramba is the Shakti Peetha sharing the Srisailam hill with Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga. The Goddess is worshipped as a bee-formed mother (bhramara) in some tantric hymns. Together the pair make Srisailam unique: Jyotirlinga and Peetha in one forest kshetra.

• The neck of Sati fell here; Bhramaramba took the form of bees to destroy a demon who troubled her devotees.
• Couples often take darshan of both Mallikarjuna and Bhramaramba as Shiva–Shakti in union.
