History

Kalighat Kali in Kolkata is among the most famous Shakti Peethas of Bengal. The present structure dates largely to the 19th century on a far older tirtha along the Adi Ganga. Kalighat gave the city its name in popular memory and remains a living centre of Kali bhakti amid urban Kolkata.
