History

Mansa Devi on Bilwa Parvat above Haridwar is one of the city’s Panch Tirthas. Cable cars carry most pilgrims today; the temple remains packed through Navratri and Kanwar season. It is counted among North India’s important Shakti Peethas in living practice.

Legends

• Mansa grants manas (heart’s desire); devotees tie red threads and return to untie them when the wish is fulfilled.
• Some traditions place Sati’s mind or hair-lock at this hill, linking Haridwar’s Ganga and Shakti yatras.
