History

Naina Devi stands on a hill above Gobind Sagar in Bilaspur district, Himachal. A ropeway now eases the climb that pilgrims once made entirely on foot. The shrine is tightly woven into the Himachal Shakti circuit.

Legends

• The eyes (naina) of Sati are believed to have fallen here; the Goddess is worshipped as the all-seeing mother.
• Local lore also links the hill to a cowherd who found a glowing stone that revealed the Devi.
