History

Vindhyavasini at Vindhyachal (Mirzapur) sits on the Ganga between Prayagraj and Varanasi. The temple is an ancient Shakti centre of the Vindhya range, expanded under later kings and still a major Navratri mela site. Kali Khoh and Ashtabhuja temples nearby form a local triad.

Legends

• The Devi Mahatmya places the Goddess as Vindhyavasini who slew the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha in this region.
• A loop of Vindhyavasini, Kali Khoh, and Ashtabhuja in one day is considered a complete local Shakti yatra.
