History

Chintamani at Theur is one of the Ashtavinayak, east of Pune. The temple is tied to the Ganapatya sampradaya and to the wish-jewel (chintamani) lore of Ganesha.

Legends

• Ganesha retrieved the chintamani gem from the greedy king Guna (or the asura who stole it from sage Kapila) and stayed at Theur at the devotee’s request.
