History

Pazhamudircholai in the Alagar Kovil hills is the forest abode among Murugan’s six. Fruit groves and a simple hill temple contrast with the great stone gopurams of Palani and Thiruchendur.

Legends

• The name means ‘grove of ripe fruit’; Murugan as child of the hills accepts fruit from wandering devotees — a story also told of Avvaiyar.
