History

Nageshwar near Dwarka in Gujarat is the tenth Jyotirlinga, set in the Daarukavana tradition of the west coast. A towering Shiva murti stands beside the temple; pilgrims usually combine it with Dwarka and Somnath on the same Gujarat yatra.

Legends

• The Shiva Purana tells of the devotee Supriya (or the merchant) imprisoned by the demon Daaruka; Shiva appeared as Nageshwar, lord of serpents, to destroy poison and fear.
• Worship here is believed to protect against naga dosha and hidden negativities.
