History
Jambukeswarar at Thiruvanaikaval, Tiruchirappalli, is the Appu Lingam — water element — among the Pancha Bhoota Sthalams. An underground spring wets the lingam even today. The temple stands across the Kaveri from Srirangam.
Legends
- Parvati as Akhilandeshwari is said to have made a lingam of water and worshipped Shiva here under a white jambuka tree.
- The Goddess’s own shrine faces the Lord; their union is the theology of the kshetra.
