History
Katarmal near Almora is a hill Surya temple, often called the Himalayan cousin of Konark. Built around the 9th–13th centuries by Katyuri patrons, it is far quieter than Odisha’s sun temple but of the same saura devotion.
Legends
- Sun worship in Kumaon treats Surya as healer and time-keeper; Katarmal’s hill catches first light over the valley.
